Inspiring Magazines

When looking at ideas for my Magazine Cover, I came across these magazine covers that gave me an idea. I came across different Gorillaz covers. The difference from these covers and the typical young rock magazine covers that you would find in the weekly rock magazine cover, these covers introduced cartoon characters and animation into them. Here are the covers that have inspired me with an explanation of why. I have looked at rock magazines and also picked out different things I liked and that I could adapt in other genres of magazine.

Cover 1
This first cover that I found was an old NME cover featuring the Gorillaz. This cover, unlike other Gorillaz feature cover, this one combined Photography and animation. The cover has been put together seemlessly and it actually looks like the cartoons were in the photoshop. The model and the cartoons match up perfectly. The drawings are very professional and have a dark style, suiting with the magazine and the genre of magazine very well. They are dark and they contrast completely with the stereotype of cartoon characters being for kids. This would appeal to my audience as it is unique and different to the everyday rock cover, this will attract more people and catch peoples attention and make them really look at. This could easily be a unique selling point of my magazine cover.

Cover 2
Unlike the first Gorillaz cover, this cover is purely based on the drawings and their signature style of art. This main image is definitely the focus in this cover. The image is crazy and very strange. This particular cover doesn't match at all with rock music because of the bold pink and the use of cake, but it still works. The main image is busy so the cover hasn't added much text to it, this stops it from being to busy and cramped. Although the cover is very extravagant and unusual, the drawing has added in the electric guitar to still symbolise their genre. Even though the cover is very bold, the thing that caught my eye was the inclusion of the logo in the drawing.I thought this was done very cleverly as it shows that the style has been used all the way through the cover. Coming from an artistic perspective, the cover is very detailed and well done.

Cover 3
This last cover is completely away from my genre but again, it has a cartoon style to the cover. Like the first cover, this cover brings together photography and cartoons. This cover is very bright and is more pop based but this style could easily be adapted to suit my genre. This could be done by darkening the colours and changing the drawing style and also the photography subject. Again, the cover has incorporated the logo in their drawings. Although this cover doesn't relate to my genre, the drawings are very matching and suitable to the genre they are based at. This is very good as it means the drawings aren't out of place or don't work well.
